Jerry Smith leads marketing, communications, and IT operations as part of the Institute on Community Integration’s senior management team, integrating all functions within a strategic dissemination framework. He develops and implements marketing and communications plans for the Institute, its research centers, and key projects, and directs a cross-functional team producing original web, print, and media content for diverse audiences. He also oversees the translation of research into accessible formats for stakeholders across the disability field.
An award-winning documentary filmmaker recognized for advancing inclusion through media and storytelling, Jerry has directed creative teams in producing dozens of public awareness, educational, and interactive media projects. His notable films include The Real Story, Invaluable, Valuing Lives: Wolf Wolfensberger and the Principle of Normalization, Disability Culture Rap, Higher Ground, and On the Autism Spectrum. He earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Central Michigan University and an MBA in marketing from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.
