Centering Student Voice in Washington State
Description
Students with intellectual disability (ID) in Washington State are disproportionately educated outside general education classrooms, yet they are rarely part of conversations about inclusion. Led by ICI's TIES Center, this project establishes the Washington Inclusionary Practices Student Advisory Council and integrates student voice into the work of the state's Inclusive Practices Technical Assistance Network. Council members guide the project as partners. Project staff also interview students with disabilities across the state, with a focus on Black students with disabilities and students with ID. Working alongside students, the team co-creates accessible resources that help students lead their own educational planning. Students will co-present two statewide webinars for Washington State educators and interest-holders. The project builds lasting structures for student partnership that will continue beyond the contract period.
