Impact: Feature Issue on Inclusive Higher Education for People with Intellectual, Developmental, and Other Disabilities

Description

This issue in the Impact series focuses on inclusive higher education. The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 appropriated federal funds that supported model demonstration projects to create inclusive postsecondary programs for students with intellectual disability. Today, more than 300 such programs exist. With this growth comes new challenges, including developing standards so students and families can evaluate which programs are best for them. The field also needs to help colleges and universities implement programs that are truly inclusive, with students acquiring relevant knowledge and developing skills alongside their peers without disabilities. And these programs need to reach more students from diverse communities. Also in this edition, for the first time, Impact features clear-language summaries of the Overview articles in the publication.
