Description
This research brief looks at death rates before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic for U.S. adults, adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), and people with IDD living in state-run institutions. It found that death rates rose for all groups during the pandemic, but increased the most for people living in institutions. By 2024, death rates for people with IDD had returned to pre-pandemic levels, while rates for the general population remained slightly higher.
