FYI from the Institute on Community Integration: April 2021

Description

FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The April 2021 issue includes four feature stories, an ICI Facebook post, new publications, staff updates, and an alumni update.

ICI pioneer Charlie Lakin wrote the issue's first feature story, “Remembering Cliff Poetz (1949-2021)," about his friend, colleague, and disability community champion. "A Touch of Color," is about this month's Art for All exhibit by ceramic artist Donna Ray. The third feature story is about MNLEND fellows and ICI staff promoting autism acceptance throughout society. The next story is about the six-month follow-up report to the ICI/NADSP survey of approximately 9,000 direct support professionals of the pandemic's impact on them. The last feature is about the Jason David Schleien Memorial Scholarship that  ICI administers; it promotes social inclusion through outdoor adventure for people with disabilities, disadvantaged youth, and other underrepresented populations. Finally, this month's Alumni Update is Carl Luepker (MNLEND, 2019–20), who, after seeing animals win people's trust and improve human communication, hopes to integrate his golden retriever into his upcoming  mental health counseling practice.
