FYI from the Institute on Community Integration: January 2021

Description

FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The January 2021 issue includes three feature stories, an ICI Facebook post, new publications, staff updates, and an alumni update.

The first feature story is about a webinar series, “Black Lives with IDD and Their Faith Communities: A discussion of the role of church communities in the lives of black and brown people with IDD and their families,” co-sponsored by ICI. The second story tells how MRCI, which serves many Minnesotans with disabilities, combined the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic with training materials from ICI to become a completely person-centered service provider. Another story is a farewell to staffer Beth Fondell, a beloved and tireless advocate for people with disabilities, who is retiring from ICI to becomes her mother's caregiver. Finally, this month's Alumni Update is Sunday Francis (MN-LEND, 2014–16), who is starting work at the National Institute of Mental Health as a research fellow exploring translational approaches across multiple developmental disorders.
