FYI from the Institute on Community Integration: July 2021

Description

FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The July 2021 issue includes three feature stories, an ICI Facebook post, new publications, staff updates, and an alumni update.

The first feature story is the latest issue (DSPs Respond to Crises) of Frontline Initiative, a series produced through a partnership between the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals and ICI’s Research and Training Center on Community Living. The second story is about the new Art for All exhibit, which runs from July 15 through August 28, featuring the work of eight diverse artists with disabilities in the Northrup King Building in northeast Minneapolis. The third feature story is about a new book that ICI produced for the federal Administration for Community Living  about the 30-year story of how people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities have lived, worked, and received support services as the United States transitioned away from institutional care. This month's Alumni Update is about Joe Meadours, a member of ICI’s Self-Advocate Advisory Committee who models better health practices (such as getting vaccinated against COVID-19) and encourages physicians to look beyond patients’ disabilities when assessing their overall health.
