FYI from the Institute on Community Integration: July 2020

Description

FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The July 2020 issue includes three feature stories, an ICI Facebook post about an Impact story on love and parenthood, new publications, staff updates, and an alumni update.

The first feature story is about MNLEND Fellows creating resources for families of babies with neonatal abstinence syndrome, a consequence of the opioid epidemic. The second story covers the new 10-year licensing agreement that Check & Connect (ICI's successful school engagement/dropout prevention program) signed with the New Zealand Ministry of Education to adapt the program manual to help Māori children stay in—and thrive at—school. The last story is a farewell to Vicki Gaylord, who retired in June. Leaders in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities noted how Gaylord's 32-year career in ICI’s publications department—including serving as managing editor of Impact magazine for nearly its entire history—advanced the field and intertwined seamlessly with the life of the organization itself.
