Description
FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The September 2020 issue includes three feature stories, an ICI LinkedIn post about DSP Week 2020, new publications and Check & Connect's new online training, staff updates, and an alumni update.
It's back-to-school time and the first feature story this month is about ICI helping students with learning challenges to stay current amidst the patchwork plans to reopen America's schools. The second story is about a new CDC grant that will enable ICI researchers to better quantify autism prevalence in Minnesota by tapping into large statewide education and social services databases. The final story is about the Minnesota Gathering, which on October 14-15 will bring together nationally-recognized speakers, practitioners of person-centered practices, and real-world families coping with COVID-19 restrictions; the pandemic moved this year's Gathering online, but being online allows people to participate from anywhere . Closing out the issue's back-to-school theme, this month's alumni update, "Hearing Literacy," is about a former ICI employee who blogs nationally about prosody, a term that describes readers’ tone and rhythm, meaning the expressiveness that students develop as reading becomes automatic.
