FYI from the Institute on Community Integration: November 2020

Description

FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The November 2020 issue includes five feature stories, an ICI Facebook post, a new publication, staff updates, and an alumni update.

Two of the feature stories are about new products: a video series and a series of reports. The new video series features and supports parents of students with significant cognitive disabilities, bringing structure—and a dose of reality—to the often-chaotic world of distance learning during the pandemic. The new series of briefs explores the measures used to evaluate non-institutional Medicaid services known as Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) and suggests ways they can more effectively support people with disabilities. A third story is about the consortium ICI has joined to better coordinate care by developing healthcare training in a structured, collaborative process among diverse stakeholders. Another story tells how, despite the pandemic, ICI and a community organization collaborated to promote awareness among diverse cultural communities about children's need for early evaluation and intervention. Finally, ICI's Check & Connect school engagement program reflects on 30 years of keeping students on track to graduation and brighter futures. This month's Alumni Update is about former ICI staff member Dennis Olson, who is now Minnesota's Commissioner of Higher Education.
