FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The August 2021 issue includes three feature stories, an ICI Facebook post, new publications, staff updates, and an alumni update.
The first feature story is about ICI collaborating with partners in the U.S. and Japan to adapt an “avatar” robot for job coaching workers with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The second story is about the new academic year: Schools are using ICI's Check & Connect program to re-engage students who showed signs of dropping out during the pandemic. The third story is about national DSP Week amid growing hope that direct support professionals (DSPs) will finally get the pay and recognition they deserve. This month's Alumni Update is about Mary Sinclair, a former ICI employee who now serves on the school board in her hometown of Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
