FYI from the Institute on Community Integration: November 2019

Description

FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The November 2019 issue includes five feature stories, a leading ICI Facebook post from the past month, nine new publications, staff updates, and an alumni update.

The first feature story is about ICI's TIES Center selecting Washington as the second intensive technical assistance state to increase the percentage of Washington students with disabilities in general education classrooms. The second story is about how Check & Connect, which helps keep struggling students (including refugee students) engaged with school, is now reaching out to refugee families, inspiring and supporting them to obtain jobs and get involved in their new communities. The third story is about an ICI staffer visiting Africa to mentor Kenyans with disabilities to support themselves through entrepreneurship. The fourth story is about MNLEND Fellows exploring mindfulness techniques to help young families better support their children with autism and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. The last story is about ICI's participation in the Hennepin-University Partnership to help struggling Hennepin County families get the public services they need.
