FYI from the Institute on Community Integration: January 2020

Description

FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The January 2020 issue includes four feature stories, a leading ICI Facebook post from the past month, three new publications, staff updates, and an alumni update.

The first feature story is about the new issue of ICI’s Impact magazine, which explores how people with disabilities are experiencing self-determination today, including how they are using Supported Decision-Making (SDM) and other strategies to replace court-appointed guardianship, improve their education, and design lives that better reflect their values. Another story covers the shortage of Direct Support Professionals and how ICI is addressing that critical issue in Tennessee. A third story is about an interactive national map, called the HCBS Assessment Tools database, that ICI designed to show state service eligibility requirements. Last, there is a story about an international collaboration, of which ICI is part, that promotes meaningful work for people with disabilities in Bhutan, a mountainous kingdom in south Asia.
