Description
FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The April 2020 issue includes three feature stories, a leading ICI Facebook post about upholding the rights of people with disabilities during the coronavirus pandemic, new publications (including the first textbook on inclusive education in the Armenian language that was co-authored by Armenian educators), staff updates, and an alumni update from a pediatrician encouraged by the progress made in telehealth during the pandemic.
Two feature stories tell how ICI and its MNLEND Fellows are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Another tells how ICI's Telehealth Lab is helping bridge the long wait times that families of children with autism experience before receiving services. For children with autism, early diagnosis and intervention is critical because the child's brain is still developing, so interventions can be much more effective. Again, the pandemic has highlighted the value of telehealth because it is a healthcare delivery method that is largely unaffected by mandated stay-at-home orders.
