Amy Hewitt, director of ICI's Research and Training Center on Community Living  and numerous other projects, was quoted in Scientific American in the article, "Why Autism Seems to Cluster in Some Immigrant Groups: Cultural Barriers Lead Clinicians to Misdiagnose or Miss Children with Autism in Immigrant Communities." Hewitt, who directed the Institute's Minneapolis Somali Autism Spectrum Disorder Prevalence Project, discussed the project's findings from 2010 in the article and explained that her team is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to analyze more recent data, from 2014. She also mentioned that the team is searching for a more diverse set of immigrant communities in the Twin Cities. The article was first published in Spectrum, a source of news and expert opinion on autism research.
