FYI from the Institute on Community Integration: July 2019

Description

FYI Monthly is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The July 2019 issue includes five feature stories, a leading ICI Facebook post from the past month, nine new publications, a coming event, and numerous staff updates.

The first feature story in this issue is about ICI's director, Amy Hewitt, testifying before Congress, where she urged members to reauthorize the Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education, and Support (CARES) Act before the law expires. The second story is about a MNLEND Fellow who made recommendations to the Minneapolis Board of Parks and Recreation to make the city's public playgrounds more inclusive to people with disabilities. Another story features a ICI new film about the crisis in the nation's direct support workforce. Finally, there are two stories about foreign visitors to ICI: one was by a Zambian educator who teaches Zambian students with disabilities and the other was a South Korean delegation who came to learn about  person-centered practices, positive behavior support, and self-directed services.
