Promising Practices: New ways to Improve Teacher Quality (www.ed.gov/pubs/PromPractice/index.html) A report announced by Secretary Riley descirbes promising efforts to improve "teacher quality." Includes characteristics and profiles of promising: teacher recuritment initiatives; teacher education programs; ways to improve licensing and certification of teachers; induction programs for beginning teachers; professional development programs; and teacher accountability programs.

Teachers Leading the Way: Voices from the National Teacher Forum - April 1998 (www.ed.gov/pubs/TeachersLead/leadership.html) Report on how teachers can spur change in their schools & coomunities and how schools and communties can support teacher leadership. Looks at why teacher leadership is needed, ways teachers can lead, how schools and communities can support teachers as leaders, and steps teachers can take to get started.

The Big Picture Company (www.bpic.org/nuhs/bpic.html) The Big Picture Company is a non-profit corporation dedicated to networking and supporting innovative high school reform efforts across the United States. The Big Picture was founded in Providence, RI by Elliot Washor and Dennis Littky, both nationally-known educators and pioneers in school reform. Check out their site for reviews of the New Urban High School Network, discussion groups, and much more.

Teacher Talk Home Page (education.indiana.edu/cas/tt/tthmpg.html) Teacher Talk is a publication for pre-service and secondary education teachers that exists as a series of World Wide Web documents. Anyone is welcome to use these resources as long as they indicate that the article or lesson plan is a part of Teacher Talk which belongs to Indiana University. "In other words..." is a place where everyone can go to read the great suggestions and comments classroom teachers and other readers have offered in response to Teacher Talk. Armadillos K-12 WWW resources (www.rice.edu/armadillo/Rice/Resources/reshome.html) This directory of K-12 WWW Educational Resources has been developed for teachers and students of the K-12 community. It is intended to be a list where teachers can quickly access resource materials for direct use in their lesson plans or as additional resources for students to explore.

Job Shadow Day (www.jobshadow.org) Job shadowing can open up doors and career opportunities for thousands of young Americans. On February 2, 1998, Groundhog Job Shadow Day will be celebrated, a day dedicated to giving young people across America job shadowing experiences. Job shadowing enables kids to spend time in the workplace, providing an up-close look at what a "real job" is like and how the skills they learn in school can be put into action. Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (www.nectac.org) Provides technical assistance to States, territories, and projects funded through the Early Childhood Program. National Center for Research in Vocational Education (NCRVE) (ncrve.berkeley.edu) The nation's largest center for research and development in work-related education.

AskERIC (www.askeric.org) Site includes full text lesson plans, education research, studies, conferences papers, hot topics, InfoGuide, listserv archives, current journal articles, and more. AskERIC also offers an online interface to the ERIC database, the world's largest collection of education related materials.

Connect for Kids (www.connectforkids.org) This is an action information center for parents, grandparents, policymakers, media, volunteers, mentors, businesses, educators, and more. Includes taking action in your community, current information on hot children's issues, volunteer opportunities, and more.

American Goes Back to School (www.ed.gov/Family/agbts) Encourages parents, grandparents, community leaders, employers, employees, religious leaders, and every caring adult to play a more active role in improving education in their communities. Includes Partners Activity Kit, Creating Family-Friendly Schools, events with businesses, family and school organizations, community and cultural organizations, satellite town meetings, and more.

Multiculturalism/Diversity Resources and Links (www.muskegon-isd.k12.mi.us/multicultural/links.htm) One of the best sites for students and educators because of the great links to other Internet sites! Classroom Connect (www.classroom.net) The premier website for K-12 teachers and students. Includes the best K-12 Internet sites, connections to thousands of schools on-line, materials for educators, contact with other teachers, and products.

Peterson's Education and Career Center (www.petersons.com) From college guides to guidance software to the biggest WWW education resource, Peterson's has been establishing essential information links between students and education for 30 years.

School-to-Careers - South Western Educational Publishing (websites.swlearning.com/careerreadiness_d/highschool/) Designed to facilitate distribution of School-to-Careers (STC) information to educators, students, and businesses. Includes a glossary of terms, STC catalog, curriculum guide, calendar of events, STC news, STC links, and more.

Educator's Reference Desk (www.eduref.org/) The people who created AskERIC announce a new service and name to access the resources you've come to depend on for over a decade. While the U.S. Department of Education will discontinue the AskERIC service December 19th, you will still have access to the resources you've come to depend upon. Through The Educator's Reference Desk you can access AskERIC's 2,000+ lesson plans, 3,000+ links to online education information, and 200+ question archive responses.

Education World (www.education-world.com) A searchable database of 50,000 education links for teachers, parents, and students. Includes lesson plans, education news, an educators forum, and more.

ECENET-L (http://ecap.crc.uiuc.edu/listserv/ecenet-l.html) ECENET-L is a discussion list for anybody interested in early childhood education. Operated by the Early Childhood and Parenting (ECAP) Collaborative at the University of Illinois, ECENET-L is the place where parents, teachers, representatives of professional associations and government agencies, faculty and researchers, students and teachers, librarians, and anyone else interested in early childhood education come together to share ideas, resources, problems, and solutions.

Multicultural Pavilion (curry.edschool.Virginia.EDU/go/multicultural) Multicultural Pavilion, strives to provide resources for educators to explore and discuss multicultural education; to facilitate opportunities for educators to work toward self-awareness and development; and to provide forums for educators to interact and collaborate on multicultural education. Includes resources for teachers, including reviews of children's music, multicultural activities, and on-line literature archives; papers, book reviews, and published materials submitted by educators around the world; research and inquiry including statistical data archives, an online article archives links to online libraries, E-journals, and research organizations; sequentially arranged activities to heighten multicultural and diversity awareness;and a collection of online networking strategies, web tutorials, commentaries on Multiculturalism and the Net, and lists of online interactive forums.

Martha's Gender Equity In Education Page (http://girltech.cs.rice.edu/Participants/mborrow/GenderEquity/gendsite.html) Provides valuable resources, including a book list pertaining to math, science, and technology education. Also includes links to lessons and other gender equity sites.

American Indian Higher Education Consortium
(www.aihec.org/) Includes a listing of all Tribal Colleges, an overview of the Washington Office, and information on the Tribal College Journal - a publication addressing Indian reservation communities, economics, health, spirituality and more.
