Profile: Florida All Means All Employer Award

A Model You Can Replicate...

Working in conjunction with our national All Means All School-to-Work Project, Florida's Blueprint for School to Community Transition Systems Change Project developed their own statewide All Means All Employer Award.

Based on the same guiding principles and philosophy as our national All Means All School-to-Work Project and award, Florida's All Means All Employer Award was very similar, with a few noteworthy differences:

  • the award was directed toward recognition of employers
  • the award was specifically geared toward recognition and celebration of employers for hiring and retaining youth with disabilities
  • the focus of nomination questions was slightly different than ours, due to the specific purpose of their award
  • their nomination was shorter than ours!

The All Means All Employer Award supported nomination of employers throughout Florida to be recognized and celebrated for their outstanding efforts to include students with disabilities in School-to-Work activities and in hiring and retaining these students as employees.

The Florida All Means All Employer Award received recognition through the Jobs and Education Partnership (JEP) newsletter. JEP was made up of top ranking decision makers in regard to workforce development for the state of Florida.

In addition, Florida's School-to-Work newsletter profiled our national All Means All School-to-Work Project, creating a nice platform for introducing their statewide award.

The following is an excerpt from the Florida All Means All Employer Nomination Form and Guidelines on the Florida Blueprint Web site. This Web site is no longer operational.

Florida All Means All Employer Nomination Form & Guidelines

What is the Florida All Means All Award?

The Florida All Means All Award was developed so that employers throughout the state could be recognized and celebrated for their outstanding efforts to include students with disabilities in School-to-Work activities and in hiring and retaining these students as employees.

Who can nominate an employer for the award?

Students, parents, teachers, counselors, and community stakeholders can all nominate employers.

Why should we nominate employers for including students with disabilities in School-to-Work Activities?

Because employers deserve to be recognized for a job well done! We want to make sure that other employers know what is being done and we want to share this information with the rest of the state.

Who developed and will support the award?

The award was developed by the Florida Blueprint for School to Community Transition Project and is supported by the state Transition Policy Board and the School-to-Work Joint Services office.

What is the process for nomination?

Just follow the directions on the attached Award Nomination Guidelines and send your nomination to the address listed.

  • Each nomination will be reviewed by members of the State Transition Policy Board
  • Reviewers will score each nomination and the average of all the scores will determine the final review score. A minimum of 40 out of 50 points is needed to win the award.
  • All nominations must be received by February 27, 1998. Award winners will be notified by March 20, 1998.

Names of the reviewers and the award nominees will be held in confidence to assure an unbiased review. All reviewers and feedback will be provided to the nominee, regardless of weather they receive an award.

What happens when an employer wins an award?

Winners receive:

  • A Florida All Means All Employer Silver Award (One Gold Award winner);
  • Recognition at the 1998 School-to-Work Conference;
  • Nomination for the national All Means All Award;
  • All Nominations will receive an All Means All Employer Certificate!
(Special thanks to Pam Stenhjem and the All Means All School-to- Work Project)

The activities and strategies used to include students with disabilities in School-to-Work activities will be shared with others across the state and the country through the Florida Blueprint for School to Community Transition web page and through the newsletter, as well as, through recommendations to present at conferences and meetings.
