STW Wizards

 All Means All

Wizard Question 5

Is there a place on the net to see what other local partnerships are doing and how they have set up their entire STW partnership? We are trying to get a local partnership off the ground, but most members of the steering committee (especially those of us in industry) feel that the guidelines are so broad and vague that we are unsure of how this whole STW is supposed to work.

We are about 3 months into the partnership and we are really struggling with what is the direction we are supposed to go, realizing that there are geographical differences. Our confusion/frustration over the required up-front studies are to the point that many of us are wondering if the local partnership will be able to hold things together. Guidance from the state is that we should determine locally what direction we want to go and what we want to do.

Wizard Strategies

Strategy 1

Minnesota is currently developing a school-to-work website. Once the website is completed, it will contain a "chat room" for partnerships to help with networking and connections. However, this chat room will be for Minnesota STW partnerships ONLY. Hopefully, someone else out there is aware of another resource on the internet to help with this.

In the mean time, the following are two ideas that may be of assistance:

  1. Minnesota has 6 School-to-Work Technical Assistance Coordinators, one of which is assigned to your area. Their job is to help with problem solving, resolving issues, and providing support to newly forming or established school-to-work partnerships. To find out which person you should contact for help with your partnership, call the state school-to-work office at (612) 296-3361.
  2. Minnesota is planning a series of school-to-work regional forums to take place in the spring of 1998. These forums will give all partnerships and those involved in school-to-work activities and systems building a chance to meet, network, discuss issues, and develop action plans to address issues such as forming and stabilizing a local school-to-work partnership. Watch for information on these forums in the Spring (March/April) of 1998.

Additionally, awarded programs that we profile may no longer exist. We are publishing this information as it may be relevant to the current work of assisting youth with disabilities in the transition from school to post-school opportunities.
