 All Means All

Question 38

I am a staff developer in science, consulting with the Teachers Academy for Math & Science in Chicago. My current assignment is with 15 teachers of grades K-3. I believe that All-Means-All. What kinds of materials, resources, etc. would you suggest that I share with them?

STW Wizard Strategies

Strategy 1

There are two wonderful web sites that I know about and tons of excellent journal articles that focus on including students with disabilities in general education math and science.

The websites are EASI (www.rit.edu/~easi/index.htm) and DO-IT (www.washington.edu/doit/).

For the journal articles, just do a search with the key words "science" and "disability." There is SO much available in this area - its a wonder everyone still isn't included!

Strategy 2

The ERIC Clearinghouse on Disabilities and Gifted Education (www.cec.sped.org/ericec) has some great resources online. Their e-mail is ericec@cec.sped.org.

Ablenet, Inc. has published "Book of Possibilities:Elementary Edition" with how-to-use simple technology for those teachers just getting started with simple-to-use assistive technology. The book features ways to include switch users in classroom routines such as presenting math problems, giving reports, and journalizing, etc. For further information call 1-800-322-0956.

Also the National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (www.nichcy.org) at 1-800-695-0285 or e-mail nichcy@aed.org has publications on inclusion.
