All Means All

Question 19

I am looking for effective practices/ strategies for involving at risk/drop out students with special needs. I am curious what other people are doing with this group of kids in middle and high school. Thank you , Lars.

STW Wizard Strategies

Strategy 1

NovaNET may be something to refer to your person. The electronic curriculum seems to have been very successful especially in Texas schools where the drop out rate is extremely high. In Northwest MN, NovaNET is used in a variety of ways. Its strongest focus perhaps is in preparing students for meeting the Basic Skills MN Graduation Standards tests in reading, math and now writing. Other schools are using it to aument regular classroom learning activities. Others use it for remediation. Others to offer advanced classes and options for gifted students. More information on Pearson Education Technologies (http://www.pearsondigital.com/) can be obtained through their web site.

Strategy 2

YouthBiuld McLean County is an All Means All School-to-Work Award Site that works specifically with students that have dropped out of school. Check out the profile of YouthBuild McLean County (http://ici.umn.edu/all/awardsite7.html).
